Since opening its doors in 2016, Bodega Garzón is Uruguay’s most celebrated winery, with ground-breaking awards and accolades for its wines and winery tourism. From the Reserva Range, up to the Single Vineyard Tier and culminating with the icon wine, Balasto, Garzón’s wines introduce wine drinkers to fresh, textured and rich wines that exude the unique terroir of Uruguay’s Atlantic Coast.
Winery tourism highlights include Chef Mallmann designed restaurant, PGA golf, luxury wine club and LEED-certified architectural achievements. A Top 100 Winery from Wine & Spirits Magazine in 2020 and again in 2023, a New World Winery of the Year in 2018 from Wine Enthusiast Magazine, and a consistent ranking on the World’s Best Vineyards list, Garzón has earned a global reputation for excellence in fine-wine, with a special focus on Tannat and Albarino.
Garzón is located 11 miles from the Atlantic Ocean – close to popular beach towns, Punta del Este, La Barra and Jose Ignacio. The 550 vineyard acres benefit from the coastal fog and maritime influence. Cool ocean breezes mitigate humidity, hilly terrain offers diverse exposures and microclimates, and unique decomposed soils (ballast) provide excellent drainage and minerality. The vineyard is further divided into over 1,000 separate plots and spans 13 grape varieties, though the largest plantings are of Tannat, Albarino and Cabernet Franc.
The wines, crafted by award-winning enologist Alberto Antonini with local winemaker, German Bruzzone, show a distinct sense of place with elegance and complexity. Fermentation in cement (15,000 litre tanks or 8,000 litre tulips); oak aging in large format, neutral fudres. Generous aromas with bright, clean fruit flavors. Vibrant energy. Beautiful texture, structure and focus.
