Aromas of blackberries and preserved figs fill the nose, with peppery notes emerging slowly. It is ripe on the palate, rounded, and elegant with sweet tannins and a pleasant acidity. The long finish shows notes of chocolate and vanilla. Aging takes place in 85% French and 15% American oak barrels of first and second-use for 10-12 months.

“Rooty, spicy aromas of cola and herbal plum are slightly smoky and leafy. This is fleshy and open on the palate, with spicy, herbal flavors of tomato, tea and black plum. A similar herbal, meaty quality lasts onto the finish.”

M. Schachner, July 2016

Quickly evolving aromas of plum, coffee, mocha and nutty oak. Supple, rich and gentle, with round flavors of red berries, smoke and tobacco perked up by a spicy element. Finishes with serious but ripe tannins, a touch of sweetness and good length.

Strong herbaceous aromas of bell pepper and cherries in liqueur, with polished tannins on the medium-bodied palate. It comes through as a sophisticated and pleasurable Cabernet. Drink 2014-2018.

Bright ruby-red.  Aromas of blackberry, spices, licorice and pepper, plus a whiff of marzipan.  Rich and tactile, but with strong acidity framing and lifting the black fruit, licorice, pepper and cedar flavors. Intensely flavored.

The 2010 Ruca Malen Cabernet Sauvignon is from Vistaflores in the Uco Valley and is raised in mainly French oak for twelve months. It is picked early to retain the aromas. The nose is complex with notes of blackberry, gravel, graphite and a faint touch of rosemary. The palate has a dry, tobacco infused entry that is reminiscent of a fine Graves, whilst the tannins are taut and fine. This is a very classic, Old World influenced Cabernet with a foursquare finish that is well-defined and long. Drink now-2018.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva received the same oak treatment as the Malbec Reserva. It is a pleasant wine that sports cassis and black currant aromas and flavors. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.

Deep purple color; spice box, incense, violets, black cherry; some elegance, needs concentration.

Compact on the bouquet, with a pointed combo of boysenberry and blackberry aromas. The palate is full, with plenty of acidity and stuffing. Flavors of blackberry, olive, fig and chocolate are likable and the finish is loud and powerful in typical South American style. Drink now through 2012.

M. Schachner, November 2010

Quite toasty, offering coffee and black licorice snap notes up front, followed by dark fig and boysenberry fruit flavors. The toasty edge resumes on the finish. Drink now.
