Tinata

This Côtes du Rhône blend pays hommage to owner Georg Weber’s mother, Tina.  Red fruit aromas, such as cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, harmoniously mingle with subtle hints of florals, herbs, and spices, such as ginger, cinnamon, and coriander, and geranium, lavender, and rose. The entrance is fresh, but finishes sweet with nuances of grenadine and a touch of cassis. Fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, Monteverro Tinata is aged in 40% new French oak barrels and 60% egg-shaped concrete tanks for 16 months.

…dark, fleshy and open-knit, with plenty of dark red plum, pomegranate, silky tannins and fine overall balance. The style is forward and fruit-driven, with little in the way of varietal character, although a hint of Grenache-inflected floreality peeks out on the finish. The 2012 offers lovely textural finesse and silkiness, but less in the way of varietal character.

Aromas of roasted beets, citrus rind and dusty chocolate. Hot stone. Violets. A generous red with lots of fruit. Nicely crafted. Full-bodied. Drink in 2015.

Wine & Spirits - 93 pts

Rich and mouthfilling, with vibrant flavors of black fruit, dark chocolate, fennel and licorice. Earthy and spicy, it’s reminiscent of a southern Rhone, but the bright acidity and lifted finish bring it back to Tuscany.

This robust red opens with aromas of ripe, black-skinned fruit, cedar and ground pepper. The concentrated palate doles out fleshy black cherries and black currants accented by licorice and allspice. Velvety tannins… It will definitely appeal to fans of bold, muscular wines…

The Tinata is a sumptuous blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache. Dark ruby purple in color, it reveals a fruit forward palate of dark plum and cassis fruit with hints of roasted meat and earth. It is very elegant and refined on the palate with perfect balance, soft round silky tannins, and a long finish.

James Suckling - 93 pts

A young red with blackberry, currant and hints of walnuts on the nose and palate. Full body, with silky tannins and a juicy and berry aftertaste. Refined and subtle. Really stylish. A blend of Syrah and Grenache. Proves that Grenache does so well in Tuscany. Better in 2015.

An ambitious project in the Maremma. Dark berry and cassis, velvety mouthfeel and age-worthy tannins, tobacco spice and a pleasant, long finish.

A blend of Syrah (70%) and Grenache, the 2010 Tinata opens to savory and meaty tones of smoked bacon, white pepper and dark fruit or prune. This is a lovely wine with enormous richness and intensity that runs straight through. That generous opulence is supported by soft tannin and a rich, velvety mouthfeel. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2022.

A blend of Syrah and Grenache, this delivers Rhone Valley-like characteristics of ripe fruit, black pepper, smoked bacon and exotic spice. But it has an Italian personality in the form of fresh acidity and Mediterranean spice and blue flower notes. This finish is soft, velvety and chocolaty.

A solid, well-structured red, with blackberry, blueberry and spice flavors. The moderate tannins firm up on the finish, where a spice accent lingers. Best from 2014 through 2020.
