Sangiovese di Romagna Riserva DOCG

The Sangiovese grape from Emilia-Romagna produces wine that matures more quickly and possesses a richer fragrance than Tuscan Sangiovese. Umberto Cesari Sangiovese Riserva is vinified at low temperatures in stainless steel and aged in Slavonian and Italian oak barrels. An aromatic blend with notes of violet, this dry wine has a rich taste balanced with slight tannins and a harmonious, long finish. This wine is ideal with red meats and aged cheeses.

James Suckling - 91 pts

A rich and creamy red with aromas of olives, hazelnuts, black cherries, nutmeg and toffee. Full-bodied, with nicely polished tannins for sangiovese. Nutty at the end.

James Suckling - 91 pts

Some savory meaty aromas with berries, orange peel and some sweet, nutmeg spices. Juicy and plump on the medium- to full-bodied palate with a chalky rounding of fine tannins. Juicy and spicy finish.

James Suckling - 91 pts

A juicy, flavorful red with plums and dark berries with some toasted-oak and chocolate character. It’s full, layered and flavorful. Toasty oak at the end, but delicious.

This is a very satisfying Sangiovese di Romagna that shows great balance between its spicy oak tones and its bright fruit nuances. Those two sides of the wine meet perfectly at the middle to offer enough acidity, spice and fruit to pair with pasta or roast chicken.

Wine Spectator - 87 pts

Plum pudding, graphite and ground spice mix with a hint of kirsch in this lightly chewy red. Balanced and creamy on the palate. Drink now through 2017.

Here is a steady and clean expression of Sangiovese that delivers steady pulses of cherry and oak spice with smaller doses of cola and licorice at the back. The wine is dark and concentrated with a touch of sourness in the mouth.

La Cucina Italiana

Smoky, carmelized aromas are spiked with a whiff of spicy salumi. The wine has medium-bodied, juicy-sweet black cherry fruit. There is a good balance of mild tannins, which become softer and chalkier toward the even, streamlined finish.

Wild berries and bramble open the nose of this garnet-colored Riserva Sangiovese from Central Italy (with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon). Background notes include spice and vanilla seed and the wine has a tart, bitter cherry finale. Pair it with informal home-cooked meals and pasta.
